In this video, Serkan Bilgin takes on an impressive challenge: building a tiny wooden house completely alone in just 20 days. Set in a peaceful mountain environment, the project shows how determination, skill, and patience can transform a pile of lumber into a beautiful off-grid cabin.
The build begins with careful preparation of the wooden support posts. Serkan burns the outer layer of the wood and coats it with protective oil, a traditional preservation method similar to the Japanese technique known as Shou Sugi Ban. This process strengthens the wood and helps protect it from insects, moisture, and harsh weather conditions.
Once the posts are ready, Serkan digs precise holes where the vertical supports will stand. Concrete is poured around the posts to anchor them firmly into the ground. Each post is carefully aligned and checked to ensure it stands perfectly straight, because even small errors at the foundation stage could cause major problems later.
With the supports secured, the skeleton of the cabin begins to take shape. Horizontal beams are attached across the tops of the posts, forming a strong structural frame. This framework distributes weight evenly and provides the base for the rest of the construction. Afterward, Serkan installs the floor platform, carefully placing and nailing wooden boards together to create a solid surface.
Because the cabin is elevated about two meters above the ground, a staircase is constructed to provide safe access. The design reflects traditional mountain homes, where elevated structures help protect against snow, flooding, and wildlife. Serkan also adds diagonal braces between the posts to strengthen the frame and prevent swaying.
Next comes the wall construction. Wooden frames with openings for windows and doors are assembled and installed. These frames are reinforced with additional blocking for stability. Once the wall structure is complete, Serkan attaches horizontal tongue-and-groove boards to form the exterior cladding. This method strengthens the walls while giving the cabin a classic log-cabin appearance that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape.
The roof is built using a traditional pitched gable design. Ridge beams and support beams create the structure that allows rain and snow to slide off easily, protecting the cabin from weather damage. Windows are installed and sealed with wooden trim, adding both insulation and rustic charm.
As the project nears completion, Serkan builds a terrace railing and installs the front door using sturdy hinges. Large windows allow sunlight to brighten the interior, reducing the need for artificial lighting. Additional finishing touches include protective varnish, trim boards, and base skirting around the structure.
Finally, a small canopy is built above the entrance, providing shelter from rain while enhancing the cabin’s appearance. After 20 days of steady work, the tiny wooden house stands as a peaceful mountain retreat—proof that with dedication and craftsmanship, one person can create something truly remarkable.
