The Dales Way hiking trail is a 80 mile long distance hike from Ilkley, Yorkshire to Windermere, Lake District. I chose to do the route backpacking carrying all my camping gear. I had a fantastic weather window allowing me to experience the Dales Way in all it's glory.
On Day 1 I walked from Ilkley to Kettlewell Camping. I hiked past Bolton Abbey, Burnsall and Grassington walking through the Wharfedale Valley and alongside the River Wharfe. On Day 1 of this backpacking adventure I completed 24 miles.

The total weight of all my backpacking gear is 9.7kg including food, water and AV gear. I’m guessing the base weight is just over 7kg.
The forecast was great with highs of 18c but lows of -1c so I had to take my cold weather camping gear.
