Lake Eyre is in the harsh, remote South Australian Outback and is the lowest point in Australia.
In April 2011, I did a solo 4x4 trip to Lake Eyre, as I wanted to see the lake full of water, and I was not disappointed. This lake rarely fills with water, and on the rare occasion that it is full, it is the largest lake in Australia. This place was on my Bucket List for years. Mobile phones do not work in this area, and many of the roads, including those in Lake Eyre National Park, are for four-wheel-drive vehicles only. Be well prepared when travelling in these areas, carry plenty of water, and food, and a satellite phone if you can. If you break down, stay with the vehicle. I enjoyed the trip. I was driving a 4WD Nissan Pathfinder, nice and peaceful. Nobody was there at the time, just me and the flies. Excellent.
