*Research on solar technology* helps the EU lower dependencies on fossil fuels and imported technologies, thus strengthening the EUβs *energy security and autonomy*.
Researchers at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the @EuropeanCommission study the most advanced materials to make sure solar panels are long lasting and more sustainable. They study the potential application of solar panels on rooftops, in combination with agriculture, at hydroelectric reservoirs, and along roads and railways.
The JRC also developed Photovoltaic Geographical Information System (PVGIS), an open and online tool that tells citizens how much energy solar panels can produce on their roofs, almost everywhere in the world.
