Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We have flurries in Central Park!
The City is alive with activity, and it can be hard to find some peace. But when it snows, you can enjoy a quiet moment. This is because snow swallows sound, just like the soft cork lining of a recording studio. Acoustic waves get trapped in the air pockets and are endlessly refracted by the branching patterns of the crystals until they trail off. When we get a significant snowfall, don’t forget to enjoy the views and, most importantly, the quiet.
The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuary from the pace and pressures of city life, enhancing the enjoyment and wellbeing of all.
