Hyperscale environments demand storage solutions that balance density, performance, and power efficiency—without compromising reliability. This session will explore how Pure Storage’s DirectFlash® Module (DFM) architecture and software innovations are enabling the seamless adoption of high-density QLC NAND in hyperscale deployments. We will examine how host-based Flash Translation Layer (FTL) and Pure’s DirectFlash software address the challenges of write amplification, power optimization, and drive endurance. Additionally, we will dive into Pure’s use of Linux userspace block device (ublk) drivers and io_uring to expose storage as regular block devices while enabling zero-copy data transfers. Attendees will gain insights into how a flexible, configurable software stack can efficiently support diverse performance and capacity use cases.
Understand the role of DirectFlash Module (DFM) in enabling high-density flash adoption with optimal power efficiency and performance in hyperscale infrastructure. Explore how host-based Flash Translation Layer (FTL) implementations can improve performance, density, and reliability—facilitating broader adoption of QLC NAND in large-scale systems. Learn how modern flash storage architectures mitigate write amplification to extend the lifetime of flash drives. Discover how flexible, modular software architectures can address a broad spectrum of storage performance and capacity requirements across diverse workloads and use cases. Gain insights into the use of Linux userspace technologies such as ublk and io_uring for achieving efficient, zero-copy storage access and integrating seamlessly with userspace-based FTL implementations.
