The investigation began when a former roommate—who had gifted Cranmer an iPhone—retrieved the device after asking her to move out. While reviewing its contents, the roommate discovered the 14‑second Snapchat video, saved it to prevent deletion, and turned it over to police. Forensic analysis of the phone and Snapchat account revealed additional recordings.
