Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson at the end of January/early February 2026. Investigators believe she was taken by force from her bed in the middle of the night; dementia or voluntary disappearance has been ruled out. She requires daily medication and has a pacemaker, which makes a prolonged disappearance especially dangerous.
Doorbell footage released by authorities shows an unidentified masked man outside her home on the night she vanished, and two ransom notes were later sent to media claiming responsibility for her kidnapping. One of those notes claimed she “perished shortly after she was taken” and was “buried in nature now,” though investigators have not publicly confirmed the authenticity of those notes and continue to treat the case as active.
