Me, Baxter, Nelly, and Tao has a ramble by the sea. The Ness headland, shaldon (near Teignmouth) is Home to some local folk lore.
It was said that the tunnel was originally built for Lady Elizabeth, widow of one Lord Clifford of Chudleigh.
Where the Pub now sits was there summer retreat back in the day. Some say it was built for easy access to the cove on the other side of the Cliff.

Also there is a Lime Kiln near the entrance to the Tunnel and that it was for this purpose it was built. Saving them a trip down to the nearby dock at teignmouth.

I on the other hand, like the locals believe it was for smugglers bringing back cheap goods from another land or ill gotten gains from piracy 🏴‍☠️ on the sea.

It makes more sense that this was the case as they could for go the Tax man or keep away from prying eyes.
Tobacco, alcohol, textiles what ever the case maybe but in our rich history there where times when tax’s where so high it forced the local populace to resort to a criminal way of life to make ends meet.

Anyone sending pipe tobacco via this route please be warned there is CCTV nearby 😂😂😂

Thank you all and enjoy your bowl’s!
