Anywho, here I do the objective "Calm the Angry Eye" in the level "Gloomy Gardens" (GG for short?) without pressing A. Quite an amazing feat, I know. I primarily did this to test all my software, though it was fun to do anyway. Something short is nice.
Too bad I started hanging instead of just dropping down right away. Could have saved some frames there. Too lazy to fix ;)

This is TAS, using eight checkpoints.
The objective Top of the Risky Walkway in the level Gloomy Gardens (GG for short?) done using only five A-presses. Heres a step by step:
Getting on the floating carpet was easy, positioning the Goomba correctly was a hassle, but also easy. Sadly, moving up the walkway isnt so easy. I would have liked to use a Goomba or Boo on the planks, but those enemies are strongly tied to their home and simply cant be moved away from there. Luckily, those wall-jumps ended up working really well. I doubt that that can be improved.
But the ending, urgh... Three jumps is just horrible. As you can see, I tried to using the Scuttlebug to get on the stone wall, but that doesnt work. So I ended up using three jumps just to get the star. Such a shame.
So to sum up:
2 A-presses to get on the top platform of the walkway
1 A-press to get on the lowest portion of the stone wall
1 A-press to move to the second-highest portion of the stone wall
1 A-press to reach the star.
I believe at least 1 should still be savable. No idea how.")

Two A-presses to get the metal cap, three A-presses to climb into the pipe using the crates. Just as I recorded the video, I realized I could save an A-press by not being metal while climbing the crates. Sorry for the choppy editing.
It currently takes 1 A-press to get out of this room... but realistically, we just reset the console after collecting this star. Seeing as the sewers themselves take 1 A-press to enter right now, this should be the last star we collect in this area. The complexities of a full run just keep rising...")

This is TAS, using eleven checkpoints.
The objective Careful Crane Clamber in the level Bob-omb Battle Factory (BoBF for short?) done using only five A-presses. This is an improvement on Samuel Vitales record of eight A-presses. I used their strats as a basis for my playthrough. Heres a step by step:
I did this primarily because, as I was watching Samuels video, I could think up various ways to save at least one A-press for the ramp at the start. I initially hoped to be able to get enough height on it with simple DRs, so that I could get on the box, but I underestimated how slippery the rmamp is. Getting pushed on the ramp by the Bob-omb also doesnt work, as your downwards speed goes up regardless and you quickly break through the Bob-omb. I figured that, if all else failed, I could at least try to clone 94 coins in order to get a star to appear and use that to get on the box. Proably wouldnt have worked either, but it doesnt matter now.
While unnecessarily sliding, I noticed the Shy Guy one platform over started spewing fire at me. I managed to lure him to my position, and here I had two more ways of getting up the ramp. I figured getting hit by far would be easier than to DR unto the Shy Guy, so I went with that.
Next came the most difficult part: getting over the barrels. Samuel used two A-presses here, so I tried to do it in zero. That didnt work out, and I think pulling that off may be near impossible (Plush may be able to do it?). Im glad I managed to shave off one A-press here, though!
The Heave-ho strat and the long-jump/wall-kick that gets Mario on the cranes structure is all Samuels work. Copying the latter was hard, and I died many times doing it. It takes two A-presses too. I doubt these can be shaved off. That invisible wall is annoying!
The last two A-presses are used to move up on the cranes structure. A skilled player may be able to do it in one. I am no skilled player, as proven by the fact that I died four times just trying to grab the star.
So to sum up:
1 A-press for the barrels
2 A-presses to get on the crane
2 A-presses to move ontop the crane
I believe 2 of these can still be saved.
