Well that was quick lol. Right after the first video usernameispassword figured out a way to do the spike jump without a first long jump by using the spike damage animation. Again huge thanks to Annoying for figuring out most of the route. Still an overall very cool star with a ton of tech in it.
The A presses are as follows:
#0.5xA: Hold P2 for the checkpoint grab and spike manip
#1: Megasideflip up past the first required wall jump section.
#2: Megasideflip up through the second required wall jump, reaching the checkpoint.
#3: Megasideflip from the last red square to the spike area.
#4: Megasideflip up high enough to allow P2 to reach the checkpoint, activating it to cause a death warp. Hold this A press for the upcoming spider bounce.
#5: Bounce off the three spiders, and wall jump to reach the comet medal
#6: Spike jump up to the final wall jumping section.
#7,8,9,10,11: Navigate the final section. Hold the final A press to reach the star platform.

So this stars actually HELLA sick. A few days ago I was in the mood to get some more stars on the sheet done, so I asked Xander to roll another star for me to TAS and he rolled this one. Theres been a lot of work on this star already but it was really fun/satisfying to put them together and try to properly optimize the star. -5s on the LOTAD I did and like -40s or smth off the IL WR if you count the cutscenes. Thoughts on each segment
First planet: This part Im still not very sure about. Theres a lot of ways to get up and a MTJ without a 2P Jump into a backflip ended up being the fastest for me, although theres like gotta be some way to get flung directly into the Launch Star.
Enemy Manip/Skip: Super happy with how this one turned out, the idea for this segment is that you get Mario high enough to enter the weird upper gravity field, and then once youre in the sideways gravity you bounce off the lured Astrogoomba, and with gravity being this direction you can triple-bounce 2P on top of the rocket, from which you can fall all the way to the next Launch star, skipping 2 sections. Main improvements over the original skip was jumping off the first Astrogoomba in such a way that I get the single and double bounces at the same time, getting good enough spacing to triple bounce immediately off the Astrogoomba instead of waiting, and going up and around the gravity field instead of going to the left.
Final Planet(s): I saw the basic idea for this ending from PurpleSun, but their version didnt quite make it to the star from just a wall jump. So what I did is to the wall-fall-jump-thingamabob to spin bonk off of the laser platform, and being able to fall backwards actually does give you enough speed to fall directly onto the star.

This beats the previous RTA record of 6 A presses by Lord SNEK, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGJqmCzo-is This brings the 120 star RTABC count down to 118 A Presses, meaning that it now takes an average of less than 1 A Press per star!
The strategy for this star was developed a couple of months ago by Iwer Sonsch, and can be found in a video here: https://youtu.be/vwwStFaN_NU - This strategy revolves around water lowering, which was known about for years but took many hours and so wasnt very RTA-friendly. This route involves a little bit of water lowering thats not terribly tedious, making RTA execution a lot more reasonable.
The A Presses used are for:
1 - Jumping out of the pipe for collecting the 3rd red
2 - Jumping off the tree to collect the rest of the reds
3 - Jumping out of the alcove to the star
The strategy in detail:
0:00 - Getting to the pipe
Most of this is pretty standard. We cant just enter the stage at high level cause that takes an A press, and also we want the water level in the main area to be quite low for the lowering. I have to DR onto the Heave-Ho at the top platform because the platform is slightly too high to just be launched, and the DR gets a bit more height.
1:20 - Getting air in the pipe
This is the most time-consuming part. While it doesnt look like Im doing much, Im slowly lowering the water in the town area until I can breathe in the pipe. How the water-lowering glitch works is that the water level in this stage oscillates +/- 20 units from its median level. This wouldnt be an issue except when you deload the town area, whatever level the water is at when you leave becomes the new *median* water level. So if you load the town area, wait until the water level is at its lowest, then leave; when you come back the water level will be lower by 20 units from what it does before. Doing this ~400 units brings the water level down enough that you can breathe in the pipe.
In terms of execution, I needed 2 cues. The first was a queue for where the loading zone is, and I used a rock on the side of the wall: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/483530960646832149/763832223852920862/Screenshot_1639.png - The second was a queue for how long to wait for the water level to be at its lowest, and I used an audio cue for this. I entered the loading zone on the start of a measure in the background music, then I wait 2 measures/8 beats and go back to the main area. This lowers the water level by about the max you can.
16:15 - Collecting the first red coin
Here I need to lower the water level down about a hundred more units, then I can swim over to the tallest building, groundpound the cork box, then swim back into the pipe. I also get another red coin here because it gets too low later.
18:40 - Collecting the second red coin
I need to lower the water level down even more so that I can stand on the second cork box. However, when I bring the water level down this low I can no longer just swim out of the pipe, so I need to use my first A press to get out of the pipe. This still saves A presses since it takes 3+ to wallkick up to the building normally.
21:20 - Collecting the rest of the coins
Most of the rest of this is pretty straightforward although its probably the most stressful part of the run. I have to move the skeeters away from the star platform so they dont get in the way of me collecting the rest of the coins (This is what killed my previous attempt.) The most stressful part of the star is those DRs onto the star platform, since you need pretty good speed and cant just edge DR or anything. But after all that, we can collect the star.
As for improvements Ill probably try to do the 0xA route but thats gonna take a multiple hours and itll require some more planning/practice")

The strat comes in 5 parts:
0:00 - Getting up to the Chuckya platform
The easiest step and the same as most other WDW stars
0:56 - Getting Chuckya to the platform below
To get this its important to both get the dive early as well as DR quickly
1:26 - Clipping into the box with Chuckya
This part took a lot of different strategies to do but luring chuckya into the corner, getting thrown on top of the box, groundpounding after the chuckyas in a specific spot, then running back and grabbing was what I settled upon.
2:27 - Clipping down into the pipe
This was definitely the hardest part and took a lot of practice, but getting good joystick movement and slide-kicking ASAP is whats important. (Also theres a chance that chuckya throws you out of bounds after you get grabbed which Im glad I didnt get)
3:02 - Cloning the star
Pretty much the same as in DDD except you have to go back up for air every now and again, I kinda got unlucky with how long it took but eh, what was I gonna do.")

In my first runthrough of this star, I had done it 0.5xA (https://youtube.com/watch?v=dZ8EIL130JI), using edge lift to get the star 0.5xA, but yesterday Dendonodon showed that you can bring the goomba to the end of the stage and get up that way, saving the half A Press (https://youtu.be/VTloLDs5lTI) So I really quickly reTASed the star from the beginning of the level and without infinite starbits. Now its actually a really neat star with the goomba escort.")

So this strat is p cool not only because it saves an A press, but as far as I know it is the first required use of P2 in SMG1 ABC, as well as the first Mario-exclusive A press save in SMG1 and SMG2?
What happens is that the cannonballs have some sort of timer where after a while the cannonball just disappears, but apparently if you stop the cannonball with P2, it resets the timer so if you keep moving the cursor over the cannonball every few seconds, you can get the cannonballs to move what appears to just be arbitrarily far (I did it for like 10 minutes and the cannonball was still moving thousands of units away from the map, so it probably can keep going until float-precision stops it)
So I looked around the level where this could be useful and I found that the cannonballs from the start of the level can be moved all the way to the end, saving the previous strat of long-jumping to the sling-pod in question. Note that the reason this strat is Mario-only is that Luigi cant do the very end of the strat of getting on the rotating platforms because his spin 0xA is much lower than Marios, so overall a pretty neat strat")

Lets go - first star I work on after coming back to the game and I already have to redo videos for being out of date - To be fair this specific strat is really cool, it really shows off how overpowered flipbugs can be, that its even enough to get the flipbugs to go between planets. Its not quite as overpowered as it seems though. When the flipbug is in the gaps between planets, itll be in the gravity field of neither of them, and in that case shooting the flipbug with starbits will only move the flipbug along the Y axis, and cant be moved laterally between planets any more. This means you have to have all the lateral movement before the flipbug exits the gravity. In particular, the first flipbug launch I end up doing is just about the largest lateral gap I could end up crossing, so the first flipbug launch has to come in two phases: One where the flipbug moves as horizontally as possible, then a second half where I move the flipbug upwards enough to enter the next planets gravity. From there the second launch isnt nearly as hard, and I can bounce off it enough to save the long jump needed in the pole planet section.")
