VIDEO INFO (Re-post): From their appearance on BBC 2's 'Colour Me Pop' (a spin-off from 'Late Night Line Up') recorded June 21, 1968. A rather stiff introduction by Michael Dean (who appears to have been drafted in from the Colonial and Imperial Affairs desk of the World Service) describes the band’s cutting-edge new album ‘Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake’ as "idiosyncratic" – probably not meant as a compliment but he was not to know that two days after this broadcast, and maybe partly because of it, the album went to Number 1 on the UK chart for six weeks which, when you consider the competition in the Summer of 1968, is pretty remarkable. This is taken from a recording of the whole set which appears on the bonus DVD attached to the 50th-anniversary box-set released in 2018 by Sanctuary Records.

It is sad to reflect that with the exception of drummer Kenney Jones none of the guys here, who constitute the 'definitive' line up, are still with us – bassist Ronnie Lane died far too young from the effects of long-term MS and guitarist/singer Steve Marriott was even younger, just 44, when in 1991 he burned to death trying to escape a horrific house fire.
