I collect the star Big Boos Balcony in Big Boos Haunt using 1 A press. The A press is to jump from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor, which also makes use of the bookends for 2 extra bounces.
This video is an improvement from my previous video in which I collected this star in 2 A presses. You can find that video here: http://youtu.be/cWAMYv0e_kE. Since then, I was informed by Tyler Kehne of a glitch in which Mario is able to retain his vertical speed. You see, when Mario does a dive recover and lands, the variable that maintains his vertical speed does NOT reset to zero. So, if Mario lands while he is falling, then this vertical speed will be negative. But if Mario lands while he is still ascending (as is the case when he diver recovers on rising steps), then this vertical speed will be positive. This vertical speed WILL reset to 0 if Mario moves at all, but punching and breakdancing will not affect it. Anyway, once Mario becomes airborne, then his vertical speed takes instant effect. So by storing a positive vertical speed and not resetting it, I am able to have Mario pop up when he punches his way off of the top step, effectively getting onto the second floor.

I collect the star Metal-Head Mario Can Move! in Hazy Maze Cave using 2 A Presses. The first A press is to long jump across the second gap leading up to the star. The second A press is to jump up to collect the star.

Gaehne D.s suggestion) that I could use the scuttle bug to bounce across the first gap leading up to the star. This requires the scuttle bug to be right on the edge of the gap, Mario to have full speed, and Mario to bounce on the scuttle bug at the furthest point possible over the gap.

I collect both the 100 coin star and the star Elevate for 8 Red Coins in Hazy Maze Cave using 1 A press. Individually, the 100 coin star requires 1 A press, and Elevate for 8 Red Coins requires 1 A press. That makes a total of 2 A presses, whereas collecting them together only requires 1 A press. Thus, I recommend combining these two stars, as it is the optimal strategy. The A press is to jump off of a pole so that I can get to the automatic elevator in the red coin room.
Originally, I believed it to be impossible to ground pound the blue coin block without pressing A. The core dilemma is that Mario has to fall off of a ledge and end up above the blue coin block (you cant dive recover because that doesnt allow for ground pounding). The problem was the lack of useable ledges. For instance, I considered having Mario fall off of the blue coin block itself, bounce on a swooper, and then be back above the block. The problem was that the block was so low that Mario did not become airborne after walking off of it he just went instantly onto the ground. I also considered the ledge where the blue coin blocks platform drops off into the shallow gas infested area (where I bounce in this video), and having Mario fall off of that ledge onto swoopers to get above the blue coin block. But the problem with this ledge was that swoopers could never get low enough for Mario to fall off of that ledge onto them. It wasnt until Gaehne D. messaged me with a new idea, saying that: There is this small shelter in the wall! You may make use of the bats and this flying shy-guy thing there to climb that shelter. After that you need to somehow fall off from the shelter onto another bat or two to bounce further onto the blue coin switch to pound it with Z. However, I calculated that the highest swooper wasnt high enough for Mario to get into the alcove (that alcove is actually higher than the other two), and so I deemed it impossible. However, today I realized that the snuffit, if its fully blown up, provides just enough height for Mario to reach the alcove! So thats what I do in this video.
One additional note is that this strategy does not allow the Hazy Maze Cave 100 Coin star to be collected in 0 A presses by itself. The problem is that the technique used to ground pound the blue coin block in 0 A presses uses 3 swoopers, and so there are not enough swoopers left to get to the Navigating the Toxic Maze alcove, which has vital coins in it for the 100 coins. So to ameliorate this, I combine the 100 coin star with the red coin star, since the red coin star provides more than enough additional coins.

I complete the level Bowser in the Sky while also collecting the red coin star using 4 A presses. The A presses are as follows:
A press #1: to cross the first two gaps in the beginning platforms
A press #2: to cross the third gap in the beginning platforms
A press #3: to jump up to collect the red coin near the flame shooters
A press #4: to jump off the pole near the goombas

Since then, I figured out how to collect the red coin above the arrow platform without using any A presses, thanks largely to Gaehne D. who suggested the basis for this new strategy. The strategy I use involves 11 goombas, whose purposes are to allow Mario to bring a goomba clone back to the pole as well as allow Mario to cross the gap as many times as needed.
Getting off of the pole proved to be a very difficult task. My original idea was to have Mario press Z off of the pole, and then bounce on enough goomba clones so that he could make it to the near platform. However, Marios horizontal speed is so slow when he lets go of a pole that this would require several goomba clones to bounce on, in turn requiring an exorbitant amount of goomba clones to bring those goomba clones over there. In the end, I realized that if Mario were instead injured off of the pole, he would have a substantial horizontal speed, so it came down to having Mario get injured onto a goomba to bounce off of.
But even after devising this plan, it was difficult to execute. I needed to leave the goomba clone far enough away from the pole so that Mario could climb up past it, but then have the regular goomba push the clone close enough so that Mario could come into contact with it. Furthermore, the angle at which Mario gets knocked back is directly related to which side of the pole the goomba clone is on, and only a very small sector of angles allow Mario to get up (for all other angles, Marios knockback lasts long enough for him to fall off the edge). Thus, I needed the regular goomba to push the goomba clone precisely and to fall down himself. I was able to manipulate this goombas patterns somewhat by doing random pole climbings (as seen at 3:40), but it largely came down to luck.
Note: To avoid having to do redo the 63-goomba strategy, this video is a hybrid of two videos, and I switch between them while holding the bob-omb (at 4:09). Nevertheless, the strategy I employ is completely possible to do in a single run.
