Another older video re-do. After seeing Lana Turner in "Slightly Dangerous" (1943) and Gene Tierney in "Rings On Her Fingers" (1942), I wanted to make a tribute to these two films, both romantic comedies. Although neither actress is remembered for comedy, they both had an enjoyable comedic touch and it shows in these films. Both play young women living mundane lives who pretend to be something they're not (scheming, albeit adorably) and end up falling in love. Their leading men, Robert Young and Henry Fonda are more than equal in matching them onscreen. Both these films are fun and romantic 40s fun! The song is "Day By Day", recorded by Frank Sinatra, originally recorded in 1945.

On the birthday of the late Leonard Nimoy (March 26, 1931 - February 27, 2015) heres another tribute to the iconic character he helped to create. While Spock often battled his emotions (made more difficult by the fact that he was half-human) there were people around him who saw the qualities of compassion, and humanity through his logic and intelligence, and he often demonstrated empathy for others. Leonard Nimoy put it like this - Spock is fun to portray, because, underneath, he really does have emotions. If Spock didnt have any emotions, he wouldnt be interesting. Actually, Spock has a considerable amount of compassion, though he wont allow himself to believe that. There is also what the character of Spock represents, what Nimoy referred to as a very human condition, how and when you should express your emotions, being in touch with them, etc. As Stephen E. Whitfield stated in the book, The Making Of Star Trek, Spock enables the series to make interesting social commentaries on the human race. Spocks alien perspective permits unusually barbed and interesting statements of the fallibility of both human customs and institutions. He allows us to see ourselves as others see us.
