Man, I am SO excited for this. I've had this idea for quite a while now. I've been wanting to introduce Slaughtermania since shortly after the end of CB III! I put together this incredibly cheesy theme song too, back sometime during the summer (back when I was stuck on the FF7 Medley).
With SlaughterSphere acting as the chaotic qualifying event, the action becomes concentrated and more personal later on in SLAUGHTERMANIA!

Time for MAP07s jam! This tunes got great energy, and kind of gives me DOOM 1 vibes at times (something from either Episode 2 or 3).
As always, I tried to stay faithful to the MIDI in the beginning. I had mainly changed up the bassline ever so slightly, just to spice it up a little. I also decided to open up once more with power-chords to suit the more aggressive start of the level. This was a pretty fun riff to play around with.
Now, around the halfway point is when I decided to start noodling. Threw in some new leads and bends that had a lot of delay and reverb on it. After that little appetizer, its time for the main course; the solo!
I still have some pent-up noodling that needs to continue working itself outta my system, so I had loads of fun making up the solo for this. Really loved playing and recording every bit of this solo, but I think my favorite bit is doing that descending double-tapped bit.

Plutonias back on the menu! On todays episode, DAR gets horribly lost in the archvile labyrinth!.
For the longest time, I had thought I never played Final Doom until I started doing work for the Doom Marathons here on the channel. So to my surprise, the very first time I loaded into this level and entered the maze, I was like Oh hey, I remember this!. I dont know why I remembered this one level in particular, but I totally had a core memory unlocked kinda moment because of it.
I definitely remember getting all turned around in this level back then, and now, some 20-odd years later, things havent changed a bit!
Also, Ive been sitting on this cover for quite a bit now (it was just about finished back in September, I think). So my commentary on noodling and the music-side of things might be briefer than usual.
With that said, I really wished I couldve used my violin for the violin bits. I instead opted for my favorite set of violin samples. The reason for this coming down to a combination of tone and skill (or lack thereof in this case.). I think I miiiight have been able to get a tone that worked, but the bigger issue was that there was no way I was going to be able to pull off those double-stops (I think thats what they were called) on the violin. I think thats also one of the reasons I set this one on the backburner. I got stubborn about wanting to record a real violin for this, that I wound up setting it aside for way too long. The problem was that I never did get time to goof around and practice on the violin!
Violin part aside, I think the rest of the cover turned out quite nicely! I really had a lot of fun riffing around on the rhythm guitar parts, as well as noodling around for the usual DAR solo towards the end!
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy my rendition of this catchy tune by Lippeth! Also hope you all look forward to more Plutonia! I dread, (but also look forward to) doing the next track, Blood Rush. Man, that power metal is totally gonna kill me! I hope my shredding abilities havent gotten too rusty. ~DAR

Oh man, its been ages since Ive covered a Bobby Prince tune, and even longer since I did a Duke Nukem track!
I want to thank those of you that voted Duke into 5th place during COVER BATTLEGROUNDS II! I also want to give a shout out to Raees Kamaar, Gaia 74, and LegalShade for requesting/nominating this great track!
This time I felt like having a bit of a throwback to 2015-DAR by using the blue, glowy effect for the video. I also tweaked my guitar tone a little bit for this one (which also tried to imitate one of my old tones).
For once, I sort of decided to just really do my own thing with this one. I originally wanted to follow very closely to the original and to make it more synth heavy.
However, I decided to try messing around a bit on the guitar on this one.
As I worked on this one, I sort of felt like I was working on something from my HORIZONS album. Which was very fun for me, since HORIZONS was one of my favorite albums to have worked on!
I also got to throw in some clean guitar (with some rotary fx), which is something I dont think Ive gotten to do since my Silent Hill 2 cover!
Then of course at 3:14, we have this channels very own Mr. Bones stealing the show with a slow saxophone solo (rock on Bonesy)!
Normally, I wouldve thought that mixing heavy guitars and a saxophone would be very a weird combo. For some reason though, as I listened to this song, I just kept imagining a saxophone for that part. In the end, I think it came out sounding pretty nice!
I also got to use the sparkly synth that I originally made for my Magical Chase cover!

Liked the energy this one had, as well as how it really gave me Touhou vibes. So much so, that I decided to throw in some of those Touhou trumpets (layered with some other brass).
While this one was short, it took me a little bit since I needed to sit down and practice with my new violin. Never touched a violin in all my life... that is, until this little beauty arrived in the mail last month! Originally, I had planned on playing the main bit with the violin, but that was a bit too much to take on starting out. However, it all worked out, since I got to throw in the Touhou trumpets instead. From there, I made up my own bits and played to the song!
I made some slight changes here and there, in particular, I added some more notes to the 2nd piano part. Also had fun noodling around once more for the outro/solo.

A bit different from what I usually do around here, actually I think this is a first here on the channel. A nice and soft acoustic-only cover (well, okay there is a very very quiet and subtle piano playing under the guitars).
I think this is a nice and pleasant send-off the 2021 Subscriber Appreciation Event. Speaking of which, thanks and shoutout to Hank Smashes for requesting this one!
This is such a beautiful theme, and I always have a weak spot for pretty tunes. The problem I wound up running into with this one was that I wasnt sure how to approach it. I didnt want to just map things out by ear and try imitating the beauty of the original by using samples and sample libraries. After all, the original was already wonderfully done with a real live orchestra, itd just be silly (and lazy) to try and copy that with samples.
So, instead, I thought about doing a piano cover, but then I realized that a couple of folks have already done piano covers of this song, so I figured well, what about a nice clean guitar rendition?. So I hooked up my Strat and started playing the chords and melodies you hear in the cover. However, after recording on the Strat, it just... didnt sound right. I wanted something more raw and traditional sounding. Felt like that kind of quality would suit the cover better, compared to the sound of a clean electric.
So, after scrapping the Strat tracks, I went and got my chair and mic-stand set up to record the acoustic. After getting it all recorded, it was exactly the kind of tone and feel that I was hoping for!
However, I remained stuck for a while, since honestly, Im not used to being so minimal in my covers (or any of my works for that matter). I felt like maybe I needed to add something, like light percussion, or pianos, or string sections. I also worried that the cover was too short, since I pretty much just straight-up played the original. I did however change up the rhythm section for the rhythm guitar. I wound up arpeggiating the chords, and also sort of coming up with my own chords in some parts too. I just paid attention to the root notes that the rhythm section had, and just kinda played things that sounded pretty with the main melody.
The piano did wind up making its way in, but very very quietly, since I wanted the acoustics to be the main focus here. Eventually after listening to it a bunch of times (actually falling asleep while listening to it on loop), I felt like maybe this sounded nice just as it is. Short, sweet, and simple. A very straightforward acoustic cover of a nice song.
Also, as for the video, hope you all dont mind the still image/thumbnail. I really wasnt feeling in the mood to go don my suit and tie for this (weathers warming up too). Especially since I shouldve had this out like a week or so ago, had I not gotten stuck.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this nice simple little acoustic cover! I also hope you all look forward to LOTS of DOOM coming soon, because its going to be DOOM nonstop for a while here. Got the rest of D64D2 and Plutonia to look forward to here! A marathon of DOOM, UNTIL IT IS DONE. ~DAR

I was actually quite surprised to find out that this was originally a dubstep song by Knife Party. Huge props to Jimmy for his Doomy interpretation of it m/! Very spooky and ominous.
I decided to cover this one pretty straight, without any additions or deviations. The only thing I really changed up was to chop off a bit in order to make things more seamless for looping.
I originally thought about recording my guitar for the square-synth melody, but decided against doing that since it just didnt fit the vibe. Rather than going with a square-synth, I put together this spooky synth layer stack. Almost has this like sinister music box sound to it.
Also, I think this is the first time in years since Ive used a marimba (last time I think was for my song Breach Code off of RED Planet II). It was fun layering together the various synths and samples for this one.
