YOUR SKILL SHOULD NOT BE DEPENDENT ON EQUIPMENT
Performance that only holds up under familiar conditions is not reliable.
Many shooters develop consistency within a single environment—same range, same setup, same pace. That consistency often degrades when variables change: lighting, terrain, movement, or pressure. When it does, it reveals a reliance on conditions rather than a true application of fundamentals.
Usable skill must transfer.
It cannot be dependent on a specific firearm, configuration, or environment. It is built on repeatable fundamentals performed on demand, clear visual processing, and the ability to adapt in real time.
Training should reflect that standard. It should introduce variation, challenge timing and perception, and require performance without reliance on familiarity.
If your training environment is predictable, it is worth evaluating how well your performance will hold up outside of it.
Assess your training structure. Identify where you are relying on consistency, and begin introducing controlled variability. If you want an objective evaluation of your performance across conditions, attend a course where those variables are deliberately integrated into the training process.
