The commissioner of agriculture and consumer services is one of three elected cabinet positions in Florida.
In addition to inspecting gas pumps, they oversee agriculture policy and state consumer protections and licensing.
Republican incumbent Wilton Simpson overtook Matt Taylor, also known as Matt the Welder. Simpson has held the position since 2023 and served in the state Senate from 2012 to 2022.
Democrats voted for Joey Mendoza Adkins as the nominee for November. Adkins got the endorsement of the Florida Democratic Agricultural Caucus, which said his policy background made him a strong candidate.
Prior to this, he was a trial attorney, providing legal aid to migrant farmworkers and DACA recipients.
