Description
In this video I'm playing a fingerstyle version of the melody best known as “Simple Gifts” or “Lord of the Dance”. Sometimes also loosely referred to as “The Shaker Hymn”, it was composed by Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett in Maine in 1848. The melody was brought into public prominence when it was included in Aaron Copeland's 1944 ballet “Appalachian Spring”. This arrangement is by Jim Nailon, with a few mods thrown in by me.
