Can you send Winlink emails from the side of the road using just a HT radio? I pulled over in Middle Tennessee to find out. In this video I test packet Winlink gateways across the Mid TN area using the Kenwood TH-D74 HT radio paired with WoAD (Winlink on Android) over Bluetooth. I swap between different antennas to see what makes a difference and document which gateways I can and cannot connect to from a roadside location.
This is part of my ongoing series testing Winlink connectivity from various spots across Middle Tennessee. Whether you are a ham radio operator building your emergency communication kit or just curious how far a handheld can reach on packet, this video shows you real-world results without the sugar coating.
