The Tortoise and the Hare had already been non-theatrically reissued once before – that’s how it got its generic burlap titles – when it became part of the “language arts and primary guidance” package offered by Walt Disney Educational Materials in the early 1960s. The title card seen here is not the original, but the version created in 1937 for the Academy Award Review of Walt Disney Cartoons. It’s very nice, though – and definitely better than the terrible recreated version on Disney+. This was scanned from a 16mm Kodak SP print dated 1979.
