This is the original RKO titles to Clock Cleaners (1937), scanned from a 16mm Agfa-Gevaert print of unknown date. RKO re-released this short unaltered to theaters in 1947, and they also made it available for rental on 16mm at the time – which is probably why the original titles have survived on various 16mm prints like this.
In 1953, the “burlap note swirl” version of Clock Cleaners was one of the first shorts to be distributed by Disney’s own 16mm division, and it became the standard version on subsequent theatrical, 16mm, 8mm, Super 8mm, TV, VHS, and DVD releases.
There were some splices in the opening and the closing titles, so I used the soundtrack from the Treasures DVD – but that little jump in the soundtrack right where the iris closes was present in this print too.
