Silent Hill: Townfall just dropped roughly 18 MINUTES of new gameplay, finally giving us one of our best looks yet at Konami and Screen Burn’s upcoming first-person Silent Hill game before its September 24th release. The new footage shows protagonist Simon returning to a mysterious coastal town, exploring abandoned houses, searching for supplies, solving environmental puzzles, managing flashlight batteries and power cards, sneaking past horrifying enemies, using bottles as distractions, and fighting back with everything from a wooden 2x4 to a handgun. One of the biggest highlights is Townfall’s strange handheld device, which functions almost like a supernatural EVP machine, allowing Simon to tune into signals, uncover clues, preview locations, detect threats through walls, and seemingly reveal things that normally can’t be seen. The gameplay also gives us a much better idea of how combat and survival will work, with melee weapons taking several hits to bring enemies down, firearms being far more effective but limited by scarce ammunition, and stealth becoming increasingly important as Simon moves through dark buildings and enemy-filled areas. Visually, Townfall looks incredibly atmospheric, with detailed interiors, oppressive darkness, creepy environmental storytelling, unsettling sound design, and a first-person perspective that makes the entire experience feel closer to Resident Evil 7, PT, and Fatal Frame while still incorporating the disturbing creatures and psychological horror you expect from Silent Hill. After months of seeing many of the same short clips and trailers, this longer showcase finally sold me much more on the gameplay loop, especially the combination of exploration, puzzles, resource management, stealth, combat, and the supernatural device at the center of everything. By the end of the footage, I definitely felt more confident about Silent Hill: Townfall than I did going in, even if Konami has strangely kept the game relatively quiet this close to launch. What do you think about the new Silent Hill: Townfall gameplay, first-person perspective, combat, stealth, supernatural device, enemies, and everything shown before the September 24th release?
