Based in Reykjavík, Iceland, Sigur Rós has been creating some of the world's finest art-music since 1994. In fact, in an interview after their first album was released, singer and guitar player Jónsi Birgisson said that the band's vision is to change and transform music.
Critics and others felt this statement was too arrogant and far fetched for a band that just began to share their music with the world.
I don't really think they can change music, but what they have done is inspired many a generation of musicians who were magnetised by their ethereal soundscapes. People who have been to Sigur Rós live shows say that this band is one thing to listen to from the album and an all new world when experienced live.
