I started to knit when I was 8 years old, we learn it in school in Iceland, barbie blanket was on of my first items.
I knitted my first sweater 14 years a Lopapeysa for me and kept on knitting, not with out stopping but I also have crochet and een in Quilting. My first sweater, Lopapeysa which I think is a very good item to begin with, easy patterns and the „plötulopi“is very delicate, so you will also need to be careful so you will not be putting the Lopi together all the time 😉.
Knitted a lot for my kids and gave lot of items for presents. The grandma of my firstborn was a really artis and could just sit down and make some artwork in clothes or on paper and I envied her a lot for her talent and never thought that one day I would be creating pattern myself. . I have been creating and following my ideas for many years, but it all started 2019 when I sent in my first pattern in a competition (and I did not win, as well) and it felt like it had been opened for waterfall, the ideas flowed and still do 😊. The first year from middle of July I made 3 patterns, and the second years was some kind of blooming, I made 16 patterns and some of them are like 2 in 1, hat and mitten but I just counted as one. The next following years I have been making from 5-10 patterns pr year, and I still have some patterns I have not already published, and some are just not meant to be published.
Starting up this mini business, last 6 years, it has been a lot of work but I´m so happy that I have gone this road it has given me a lot, my kids have helped me a lot and then I have got a very talented and nice crew in Manitoba who test knits for me and have endless patient for my misspelling and asking stupid questions 😉.
I am very fascinated by the Icelandic nature, so it is kind of my main items in the pattern if I don´t make a pattern of some flowers, northern lights or volcano I give my patterns the name of the mountains and Glaciers. At my web page and in my patterns, I write a little bit about were I get the idea of the pattern, every pattern has a story.
This has been a very educational time for me and giving me a lot, when my kids grew up and I did not have so much to do, this came and I really love it even if I must work with it as well, so to say outside my business. Now I have got my two longtime hobbies, combined, knitting and taking photos. I take 95% of the photos I use and very often I go outside to take photos of the items. I think they look much better if I take the photos outside than a studio photo, which are though very necessary so people can see better the details in the pattern.
