Siberian Husky vs Leopard - Siberian Husky fights off a leopard
Our video today is about an Siberian Husky fending off a leopard. Any predator will gravitate to feeding on what will satisfy their hunger with the least amount of energy expended. Leopards in certain parts of India, have learned that feral and pet dogs satisfy both of these criteria. The leopard tends to raid residential areas at night and will pluck the dogs right off the door step while it’s sleeping. Even IF the dog has time to scream and struggle, the leopard simply carries it off and is gone before owners have the opportunity to react. Leopards tend to be less active during the day, but have learned that dogs are easily available during the day as well.
All the leopard has to to is show itself, the dog leaps into “pursuit mode” and all the leopard has to do is draw it to a more secluded area, turn on the dog, kill it, and carry it away. A single domestic dog is no match for a leopard, most are not large enough, agile enough, aggressive enough or alert enough to outrun, outfight, or avoid a big cat. However, some dogs don't give up that easily and they fight back to protect themselves.
In the next clip a husky mix fended off a leopard, it did struggle a bit but at the end it managed to free itself from leopards jaw. This husky mix was a brave enough to stand its ground against one of the top predators in the wild. As we explained in several of our previous videos that not every dog is same when it comes to fending off or fighting a predator, and same goes for the predators. A young leopard or a weak leopard will have far less chance in taking down a large dog breed, as compared to a healthy and fit leopard.
Leopards and dogs keep on going at each other and this will always be there. According to wildlife experts , leopards play an important role in keeping the stray dogs population in control and the government doesn't have to cull them. Most of the times leopards being the one of the top predators win over dogs but sometimes they do come across the dogs that will give leopards the best fight of their life. You could infer that if a German Shepherd and a leopard were to come face to face, the leopard would win due to its agility, strength and being a swift hunter. However, not every encounter between the two favours the leopard as in this clip the GSD fought off a leopard and managed to escape the death that day.
In the next clip a leopard took down a street dog. It attacked and caught dog by the throat, leaving no chance for it to bark or raise an alarm. And unfortunately many dogs meet the same fate in most cases. Because leopards are far better equipped to fight, they have strong forepaws with sharp claws, which they can use in a fight. They also can bite as well, and they are strong enough to kill antelope, wildebeest etc.
In the next clip a husky was guarding the property, when it noticed a shadow standing outside of the main gate. It wasted no time to go and investigate, it could smell a leopard outside but still was unable to see it.
To have a better look around the husky went to the roof top and started to look down into the bushes to see if it could locate the leopard. In the meanwhile, leopard had entered the property and started to move up the stairs in complete silence. The leopard's hunting technique is to either ambush its prey or to stalk it. In either instance, it tries to get as close as possible to its target. This leopard also wanted to get as close to husky as much it possibly can , before it could catch it.
Luckily, Husky saw the leopard coming up the stairs and quickly moved to the side, when the leopard jumped on it. Leopard tried to grab Husky's neck but husky prevented it by biting on leopards neck and moving out of the way. After that Husky ran down the stairs, and according to sources the growling and barking sounds were loud enough to wake up house owners, which made the leopard to flee the scene.
