Damnation difficulty Darktide gameplay on Enclavum Baross, Habzone HL-19-24, "Throneside", using the Orestes Mk IV Assault Chainaxe.
There is a lot of discussion about this weapon being bad. After using it, I can agree in a lot of situations having this melee weapon with you does ruin your chances of survival. However, any moment you can let this shine... It really does shine. Ogryn, Mutants and Specialists are all terminated by the ripping power of the activated ability. The weapon sticking to the Heretics while shredding them feels visceral, truly satisfying. Do not get caught out alone by a hoard with this weapon though or you may as well count yourself dead. With each swipe momentarily sticking to single targets, it won't be long before you're overwhelmed by the forces of Nurgle.
The blessings I had on the weapon are Slaughterer (+7.5-15% Power for 3.5 seconds on kill. Stacks 5 times.) and Headtaker (+2-5% Power for 3.5s on Hit. Stacks 5 times.). These we're just random rolls and not what I chose as I am not sure what is optimal.
I both love and hate this weapon. I want to be able to use it in more often but its just so easy to be overwhelmed with it, even with it supposed defensive power. Would I use this weapon for higher difficulties such as Hi-Intensity Shock Troop? Probably not. The Antax MK V Combat Axe and Power Swords feel much more reliable weapons for high level gameplay. However, sometimes you just can't beat the feeling of shredding the heretics!
