When looking at new modernistic levels, it is sometimes difficult to find unique aspects due to how repetitive the style can be. In Vast, however, Sonar553 decided to utilize some really interesting effects and designs, giving a level a bit of memorability. The custom backgrounds created for the level especially highlight this attribute. Each of the backgrounds - save the first one - use moving or spinning pulsing objects that overlap each other. By using these objects it creates a very unique atmosphere for what would be an otherwise plain modernistic level. To compliment this atmosphere, cool colors are used throughout the level. While I do wish the colors themselves would change within each part, the colors are kept from being static through background pulses that are used. The level also avoids being static by having nearly every single block move. Making every single block move can make a level look messy or harder to sightread, but the movements done in Vast are fair and clean. While the block designs and background look quite complete, the foreground and air decoration seem to be a bit empty. For a few sections, only pulsing objects are used for air decoration, which makes a strange combination with the background which is already made up of pulsing objects. By adding gears or some foreground effects this issue could easily be bypassed. Overall, while sometimes a bit empty, Vast is still an interesting addition to Sonar's created levels, and its special designs help it stand out from other levels of its kind.

I got another new hardest! Paroxysm actually took me far less time to beat this than Auroral Darkness, but idk this might be more my skillset.
I originally intended to beat this level for two reasons. One reason was because it was in the range of difficulty I wanted to try to jump to next. The other reason was because I found it absolutely hilarious how consistently bad the enjoyment ratings were from victors of the level and wanted to try it out myself.
I went in expecting a horrible experience, but instead happened upon one of the best experiences Ive ever had with an extreme.
Paroxysms difficulty relies entirely upon random chokepoints throughout the level, and between these chokepoints is basically filler Insane / Low Extreme gameplay. Its understandable why most people would despise this level because of the chokepoints, but I actually had a ton of fun trying to find consistent methods for the parts. By using different decoration objects, click patterns, and music cues (the level is very well synced) I was able to basically get consistent at every chokepoint in the level, and by today I was able to get to the end of the level consistently, getting 77 and 100 within around 10 minutes of each other.

Hamunite is MarkyDashs most recent level, and this time it is a collab with a simplistic modern creator, ZapZed36. In this fashion, many of the designs in this level are simple, and the colors follow this trend as well. Each part usually consists of three to four colors, often switching to the beat of the music. In this way, Marky and ZapZed both did a great job with keeping the pulses interesting despite using very few colors. One aspect I really like about this level is the smoothness of the movement of most of the blocks. The movement used fits quite well with the song and adds to the atmosphere of the level. The only exception to this is in the section with the planet, where the background feels a bit too dynamic, but otherwise the movement is excellent. Also, the level follows three distinct themes, those being cartoon, neon line, and advanced. When a level has many different themes, oftentimes it can be difficult to connect them all into one coherent level. However, in Hamunite, each part links together quite well. This is especially notable in the transitions between each part, which use objects from both parts that are being linked to make a smoother transition. One drawback of the level is that the first part is a bit hard to sightread since you have to go up invisible slopes to progress through the level. Overall, this was a really chill and atmospheric level, and I hope to see more work from these creators in the future.

Where have I been? Well, school actually. But also this. This level was rated on the 1.9 GDPS, but then was subsequently unrated for how unbalanced it is. I started playing it while it was rated, but it got unrated before I finished it.
So how unbalanced is HEAT C0MPLEX? Well, for one, everything that isnt a wave is pretty much medium/hard demon. The pre-drop wave is pretty easy, but you can mess it up sometimes. However, the first and second drop waves are exceedingly difficult. It took thousands of attempts to figure out how to get consistent at them, and it didnt help that wave is not my strongest gamemode.
The icing on the cake, however, is the last wave. This last wave is stupidly difficult compared to everything else in the level. The up and down mini-wave movements are extremely precise with a very vague pattern and the big waves are inconsistent in every way. In addition to all of that, the inner slope designs in the mini-wave have square hitboxes on the outside, allowing you to die to invisible hitboxes at times in the section.
In total, I died 162 times on the final wave.
For any very skilled wave player I believe this wouldnt be that hard to complete, but for anyone else, this is ridiculously hard. Id say - for me - its on par with old Athanatos, or possibly harder.
