X99 is one of the longest-living PC platforms ever, but is it still worth buying in 2026?
In this video I take another look at X99, LGA2011-3, cheap Xeon CPUs, old i7 Extreme CPUs, used ASUS motherboards, AliExpress boards, quad-channel DDR4, and whether this platform still makes sense for budget gaming or productivity.
The crazy part is that you can build an entire X99 platform for very little money: cheap motherboard, a Xeon that costs almost nothing, and DDR4 in quad channel. It is not modern, and single-thread performance is definitely showing its age, but for a strict budget productivity machine or a cheap 1080p gaming PC, X99 can still be surprisingly useful!
