A major trial in Indonesia involving 19 defendants has raised fears that children legally adopted by Singaporean families may have been victims of an alleged baby trafficking network that bought babies, forged documents, and arranged illegal adoptions.

The case has sparked difficult questions about international adoption, vulnerable parents, trafficking networks, and how Singapore’s strict adoption system failed to detect the alleged scheme.
