Should the West get ready for war? Part 2 The Q&A Battle of Ideas Festival

Western countries struggle to control illegal migration, let alone deter powerful adversaries. Younger generations show declining national attachment and little desire to fight. And despite talk of geopolitical rivals, Western economies remain deeply dependent on Russia, China and others for vital resources.
Should today’s rearmament talk be welcomed, feared or mocked? With Western nations divided over Ukraine, free speech and relations with China, can we even speak of a united West? Is it time to prepare seriously for conflict — or time to step back?

The speakers are:
Dr Tim Black – books and essays editor, spiked
Mary Dejevsky – former foreign correspondent; writer and broadcaster
Virginie Joron – French MEP, Patriots for Europe Group
Tim Scott – executive director, The Freedom Association
Charlie Winstanley – author of Bricking It; public affairs & social policy professional

Chair & Producer:
Jacob Reynolds – head of policy, MCC Brussels; associate fellow, Academy of Ideas
