I used to spend my summer writing lesson plans, decorating my art room, organizing closets, SCRIPTING MY LESSONS in a (failed) effort to be the best art teacher I could be.
It didn’t make me better but it did make me bitter.
Bitter that I had neglected my own creative pursuits; bitter that I had left no time for myself; bitter that my whole world was teaching ART while not MAKING any art.
So while I DO NOT think you are “just” okay (tho, what’s wrong with that?!), I do want you to know it’s okay to be…okay! So WHAT if the room is a mess, your lesson plans are scribbles on a Post-It and you are teaching the same lesson to fourth as you are to first (did it ALL the time)…what the kids remember is a happy art teacher. And you’ll be much more happy when you make time for yourself and your creative pursuits.
