Introduced by the L.S. Brach Manufacturing Corporation of Newark, New Jersey in the mid-1920s, the Vis-o-Glow was one of dozens of different devices designed to protect radio antennas and other sensitive electronic devices from lightning strikes and other overvoltage surges. The integrated neon discharge tube not only reduced the arrester's breakdown voltage, but also gave the user a visual indication of lightning strikes.
