Shig Kizuka was born on August 8, 1923 in Watsonville, California. As a result of Executive Order 9066, Kizuka and his family were forcibly removed and incarcerated at the Poston concentration camp near Parker, Arizona. Shig left Poston to attend college and volunteered for service soon after, eventually joining L Company of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. In this clip, Shig shares his visit to Poston before leaving for basic training and his thoughts on volunteering.
