The prosecution has delivered its final argument to jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, telling them they should find her guilty of killing her three children.
Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague argued the central question is not whether Clancy was struggling with her mental health, but whether she understood right from wrong and was capable of controlling her actions when she killed Cora, Dawson and Callan.
Sprague pointed to Clancy’s behavior on the day of the killings, arguing that searches for a restaurant, sending her husband on errands and adding another stop gave her time alone with the children and demonstrated planning and decision-making.
She also challenged the defense’s argument that Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis and acting on a voice she allegedly heard, highlighting what prosecutors say are inconsistencies in Clancy’s accounts and arguing that her actions before and after the killings showed deliberate choices.
In one of the most emotional moments of the 56-minute closing, Sprague returned to how the children died and argued strangulation demonstrated premeditation and extreme atrocity.
“She left them discarded on the basement floor, like broken toys, because she was done playing the game,” Sprague said in her final statement to the jury, along with, “You know to a moral certainty, she is guilty.”
The case is now nearing its final stage as jurors prepare to decide whether Lindsay Clancy should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.
