The prosecution is now reconstructing Lindsay Clancy's decisions in the hours and minutes before she strangled her three children—and the timeline raises an extraordinary question: did she deliberately create enough time alone in the house to carry out what she was about to do?
In today's show, I walk through the expert's analysis of the errands Lindsay sent her husband Patrick to run. According to the testimony, Lindsay described the takeout decision as essentially spontaneous. But the records reportedly showed that she had already researched the restaurant and its distance before suggesting it to Patrick. It wasn't one of their usual takeout restaurants, and it was nearly six miles away. She had also researched CVS earlier but didn't add that errand until shortly before Patrick left—extending the amount of time he would be away.
Then the testimony gets even more damaging to the insanity defense. Lindsay claims a voice commanded her to kill the children, but according to the expert, that voice didn't tell her where to do it, how to do it, what to use, which child to kill first, or how to attempt to kill herself afterward. Those were decisions she apparently made herself. The expert's conclusion is that her ability to execute that sequence demonstrates control throughout what she was doing.
