Inside a standard glass vial, insulin and flu vaccines often look identical to the naked eye. Both present as clear, water-like fluids packaged in small, sterile glass containers with rubber stoppers and plastic caps. Because both rely on similar cold-chain storage and glass packaging, picking up an unlabeled vial of either substance makes visual identification nearly impossible without reading the label. In developed countries, reliance on traditional glass vials for these routine injections has dramatically declined. Insulin is now predominantly distributed in pre-filled pens or cartridges, allowing patients to dial precise doses without manually drawing fluid with a syringe. Similarly, seasonal influenza vaccines are almost exclusively supplied in single-use, pre-filled syringes that come ready to administer, minimizing dosage errors and ensuring strict sterility.
