Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) is a non-invasive supplementary therapy for managing OCD. It uses surface electrodes on specific acupuncture points to deliver mild electrical pulses. This targeted stimulation modulates cortical brain activity to temporarily reduce severe anxiety and help patients resist intense compulsive urges. However, TEAS cannot replace conventional OCD treatments. Long-term neurological adaptation still requires evidence-based behavioral protocols like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy alongside standard pharmacological options. TEAS operates purely as a supportive mechanism to boost traditional therapy success rates and mitigate medication side effects, rather than acting as a standalone cure.
