Black Doom transports Shadow into this cool cyberstage to cause more terror to the United Federation and the whole world, but you still get to choose whether or not you actually get to do that.
A lot of this level will involve riding through grids to get to other parts of the level. Sometimes you'll have to avoid running into (literal) firewalls.

There are only two missions to choose from in Digital Circuit, and they are:
Dark Mission: Reach the core program with Black Doom and destroy it.
Hero Mission: Team up with Rouge to collect the third Chaos Emerald at this level's Goal Ring.
For this video, I once again teamed up with Rouge to get that Yellow Chaos Emerald.
Don't you kinda hate it (or laugh) when a Hero character suggests that need to hit a GUN robot to advance, only to have them scold you right after you do that?

Regardless of how which second stage you complete in a Story Mode run, the following cutscene remains the same:
At the White House, the President, yes, the President of the United Federation gets a report from the CIA about the Black Arms' activity. They were pushed out from Westopolis by GUN troops and they were also able to drive them away from five other cities. The CIA also had their mainframe compromised (which is what Digital Circuit is).
The President still has high hopes that the United Federation will finish the fight against the aliens - the terrorists.
He also has a fondness for how Sonic and Shadow previously saved the world. He must've gotten that picture sometime after Sonic Heroes, right?
