Now that the prologue and tutorial has been taken care of, the game can now truly start.

In the Prelude to the Dark Abyss, past the hallway that contain the game's first Save Room, there lies a bigger room with 5 platforms.

And even before that, there's a door that will lead into a deep basement. What is that for? I'll cover more that later.

For now, take the platform that will take you up to the House of Sacred Remains. As a freebie, you'll get its Castle Map right on its platform that will reveal several of the area's floors (but not all of them).
----------

Leon has two main attacks, using the whip for quick attacks in front of him, and using the whip for large attacks around him. These can be strung together for combos, and more will be gained as he defeat enemies.

You can pick up Subweapons such as Daggers, Holy Water, and Crosses from yellow torches. Purple ones yield Heart, which you'll usually need to use the Subweapons with.

A lot of the Metroidvania-ism that Castlevania games have had since Symphony of the Night are recaptured here even in this 3D, Devil May Cry-like game. Restoration items and stat-boosting equipment to buy or make enemies randomly drop. Numbers that show damage you give and take. The works.

The only RPG element missing here compared to other IGA-era games is a EXP system. You do kill enemies to gain more moves, but this isn't calculated through EXP or Levels. You often having to kill a certain amount of enemies and/or perform enough of certain actions, such as guarding their purple attacks.

You'll still, however, find items that increase your max HP, MP, and Hearts, though.
----------

Part of traveling through areas in these games aren't just about reaching the boss. You will need to find special rooms that have you move or push switches that will activate more keys onto a door, which may or may not lead towards the boss, or maybe something else, such as a rare item.

The way the camera is angled and fixed, some secrets, be they items or doors, may be right out of your sight unless you just jump at the right spot.

Further still, some rooms may just need you to solve a puzzle or a secret of itself before you can progress. There's one secret at 8:37 I accessed just by turning a bookshelf around.

Treasure every Save Room you can find. They will always be of blue doors in the game, and red spots on the map after you've entered into them.
