Seventh Gate were an American thrash/death metal band. They only released 2 demos, "A Divination of Masquerade" being their last one.
If you listened to the "Execution" demo I posted last week, you will notice a huge improvement in the band's songwriting. Their death metal vein is also much more noticeable. Overall it's a much more mature release and now we can pinpoint some clear influences - notably Pestilence, Possessed and a Death-like tapping technique - and even then, Seventh Gate still pull off some great, unexpected melodic, powerful and clean singing moments that are taken directly from their thrash influences (and for that, Somnulence might be my favourite track from this demo, it's just so unique).
The only downside to this demo is that they don't have such a proeminent, jangly bass like they had in their debut - but you can rest assured that they compensate for that.

Skullcrusher were a Finnish thrash metal band, formed in 1997. They were rather short lived, having released 4 demos, last one in 2007, which was actually recorded in 1998 and picked up by a label, making Storming Onslaught their actual last one. In the title it reads 1999/2000 because I wasnt able to pinpoint an actual release date, different sources give me different years.
They remind me a lot of Slaughter Lord, thats for sure. Those Canadians left their mark in the thrash scene and Skullcrusher picked up where they left with some minor tweaks. Overall, its the same bit with a little less black influence, as well as a touch of death metal, and higher pitched vocals every now and then

Bastardized are a death/doom metal band from Singapore, and With Love,... was their debut EP. For some reason theyre categorized on Metal Archives as 𝘔𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘤 Doom/Death, but I really disagree with that! Unless its related to their 2015 debut album, idk, I didnt listen to it. Anyway, in this EP youll find very straight forward death metal riffs accompanied by great great death/doom breaks that either give the songs a somber feeling or turn them even more aggressive.
Really cool spikey logo too!

Mazetorment were a Malaysian death metal band (maybe the rawness gives them some black metal too, idk). Formed in 1990, this demo is all thats known from them.
If you can ignore that 99% of the demo will be in your right ear (or if you can turn on mono on your speakers), this is pretty good! Super amateurish death metal where you just have a bunch of dudes throwing rocks at their instruments for 15 minutes. Sometimes they remember theyre able to play the instruments and pull out some tremolos and syncopated beats.
As you might guess from the band name, there is in fact some Morbid Angel influence...

Dark Prophecy were a Portuguese black/death metal band. Formed in 1992, this was their only output, a rehearsal recording thats 50% music 50% samples.
For the majority of the demos, this is definitely some of the most mid-paced black/death metal I ever heard. These guys were super rookies, theres virtually no complexity at all in this whole demo - and you know we like sloppy and ammateurish metal in here. Having intros that are 3 minutes long is insane, sure, especially when one is a sample from an obscure Spanish horror movie that I couldnt identify and the other is from Childs Play 2 , but that just screams DIY from my perspective. Sometimes it feels like the band also tries to emulate some Bathory but doesnt really achieve it. That and the slow tempos leaves them in a weird zone thats neither black nor death metal, a zone thats almost impossible to enter today.

Hooded Menace need no introduction. The 4 piece death/doom giants have proven themselves over and over again with every single release they get out - The Tritonus Bell, their 6th full-lenght, does not fall behind.
Dreadful and dismal-sounding, this new entry to the bands discography flows perfectly from start to end, reaching both extremes from death metal and doom metal, mixing them up in such a way that can be both dream-like and harrowing. With no downtime, Hooded Menace just released an album that I bet Ill be seeing very often in AOTY lists.
For fans of Asphyx, Coffins, Runemagick or Temple of Void..... Hooded Menace are a metal behemoth not to be ignored.

Dethroned were an American death metal band and this self-titled demo is the only material they ever put out.
Imma start this by saying this was taken from the bands bandcamp page (link down there) and I believe, by comparison with the tape card, the track #4 Fever is missing. I couldnt find it anywhere, otherwise I wouldve included it of course, but if you know anything about it let me know... However I find it weird that that track isnt mentioned anywhere, be it on Metal Archives, Discogs or the Bandcamp page - weird thing!
Anyway, mega beefy demo, often borders brutal death. The original artwork is way better too, I really dont like the new version they included in the Bandcamp release.

Eschatus were a Canadian death metal band, formed in 1998. They released only 2 demos, this being their last material to see the light of day.
Straight out of the bat this band is intense and has a incredibly unique mix of influences - thrash and brutal death. I kid you not, they blend deathrash with a solid amount of broots technicality like its nothing, not to talk about their stupidly jangly bass.
There is another band that sounds exactly like this as well - the japanese powerhouse 兀突骨 (Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu). I almost want to say that Eschatus were influenced by them, but... GTK was formed 2 years after Eschatus.
Incredibly good and unique demo, undoubtedly a gem from the mid 00s (and death metal wasnt very good in that decade).

Algol were a Norwegian death metal band that went through interesting name changes. They formed in 89 as Seance and then, somewhere between 89 and 91 they decided to go by... Buttocks... Dont ask me why. Afterwards they settled on Algol.
Ive found no information on this release online, but Im sure its the same Algol - mostly because 3 tracks from this rehearsal were released in the 1992 demo The Priests Are Laughing.
This sounds spiteful. Very characteristical americanized death metal with some Deicide tinges - also, Im not sure how popular this demo is, but it also reminds me of Ossuary Insane - Fallen to the Pits demo at some points. Its super aggressive, fast and ravaging.
This was a super neat find, Ill have to listen to all their material now (even as Buttocks...).

Sarcasmo, hailing from Brazil, were a death metal band and were active from 1993 to 2011. They have released 5 demos and 2 LPs.
Very broots influenced death metal, think early Cannibal Corpse with a mix of Morbid Angel sometimes. Those low gurgles dont lie!

Psych Acid are a death/thrash metal band from Brazil. Formed in 1990, the band released 2 demos in the 90s, this one being their debut, and then, after 18 years without new material, they released a new EP in 2013.
This band often feels like they wanted to pay homage to Demolition Hammer and sometimes to Sodom and Sepultura - all great influences! Although not very distinctly different from many other bands, Psych Acid still pulled some solid 25 minutes of riffage.

Bereavement were an American death/doom metal band. They formed in 1993 and in the same year released this demo, which was their only released material.
The demo was originally composed by the first 4 tracks only, but when I got my hands on it it had 6 extra tracks that I decided to include. I have no idea where they originate from and there is little to no information about the band floating around online. My best guess is that Bereavement did release at least one extra tape (that was never catalogued anywhere) with the rehearsal material, along with the Paradise Lost cover and those 2 tracks with unknown titles.
If anyone has more info on the band I would love to know! Share it in the comments or email me, whichever you prefer.
Oh yeah, and about the music - its nothing too unique, but if you like old school death/doom you will enjoy this for sure. It still has a somewhat primitive approach to the subgenre and everything fits perfectly with eachother. Not a must, but definitely an interesting release for big death/doom nerds like me.
