Se7en should not exist.
By 1995 David Fincher was unemployable and had publicly sworn off directing forever. Denzel Washington had already passed. New Line had burned through eleven drafts trying to delete the ending, because nobody was going to release a film that finished like that.
Then one person in one office made one small mistake, and the movie got made exactly as written.
That mistake is why Brad Pitt buried a clause in his contract. Why Morgan Freeman was sent a script his own agent was warned not to send. Why Kevin Spacey asked to have his name taken off the poster. Why it rains in almost every outdoor shot in the film.
And the box. I'll tell you what was actually inside it.
