"Drippy, lumpy, gushy, gloppy, smeary, smelly, slippy, sloppy, wet paint!" Something so delightfully primitive and visceral about all that slippery "Wet Paint" a'sloshing around. From 1985, written by Christopher Cerf and Jon Stone, and performed by the irrepressible How Now Brown and the Moo Wave, this is its debut performance from Episode 2033 (Season 16). TECH NOTE: The bars. I know. This is the best Ingeborg and I can do right now. I literally spent hours working with five different programs and could not lose the bars without sacrificing precious video quality and that just will not do. So, they're here until we can sort something else out. Please deal with them accordingly or kindly make your own :-)
The band was a spoof of the then-current new-wave rock bands (Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Flash and the Pan, Sniff 'n' the Tears, Martha and the Muffins, etc.). Lead by How Now Brown (voiced by Christopher Cerf, who also wrote the group's music), the band had two backup cows (voiced by Ivy Austin and Tish Sommers Rabe), a Pumpkin keyboardist (wearing a headband with built-in cow horns), a Green drummer, and a Lavender guitarist (both wear matching gold necklaces). The cows also did backup work for Kermit's "Do-Op Hop", another Chris Cerf classic. The black and white one was puppeteered by Pam Arciero.
The SMV (Sesame Music Video) intro by the VJ (Fran Brill) and graphics are a parody of MTV. They used to show music videos back then, kids, can you imagine? The band also had a hit with "Danger's No Stranger" in the same visual style (linked below).
Splotchkat Records is an in-joke reference to composer Chris Cerf's publishing company. It was changed on the "Count It Higher" home video to Mootown Records, a parody of Motown Records.
