Wilster's follow up to Silence gets off to a strong start in these first five maps. Serenade evolves the identity of Wilster's previous project and leans into its strengths without leaning on it as a crutch. Maps are classically styled without looking basic, eschewing modern obsession with detailing for something more familiar if you played Doom in the 90s, but you'll be expected to bring a more modern level of skill if you want to play on Ultra-Violence. Combat tends toward frantic and punchy, challenging the player with snap decision-making, tight quarters, and resource management, all while maintain a high octane pacing that gives the maps a lot of momentum.
Serenade's first release candidate recently dropped, meaning you've got a full 32 maps to dive into if this tickles your fancy. What I've seen so far is well worth your time, and I hear tale that it only continues to get better and better.
