On Sept 9, Lynne Sexten of Agrace shared how the organization is compassionately reimagining dementia care. Agrace is bringing the Hogeweyk social model of care to the United States for the first time, creating a familiar, engaging and supportive environment for people living with dementia. With one in three adults dying with some form of dementia, Lynne highlighted the toll on both patients and their caregivers. Agrace’s new village-like community will focus on normalcy, autonomy, daily routines, outdoor connection and meaningful activity, with expected benefits including improved quality of life and reduced anxiety and depression. The community is expected to open next September.
