In his address at Ahmedabad University, Professor Youba Sokona, Former Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), stressed the critical role of localised scientific research and evidence in shaping a more inclusive and effective global climate strategy.
Professor Sokona's lecture, 'Prospects for Climate Resilient Development and Just Energy Transition in African Countries, emphasised the need for the scientific community in the Global South to develop its own agenda tailored to the unique challenges of their regions while collaborating closely with practice and policy communities. By fostering South-South cooperation and bridging the gap between global narratives and local realities, one can contribute to more effective climate action.
