Let's review each episode of the TV show The Venture Bros, the greatest adult animated series ever made!

In Self-Medication, Monarch finally has Venture right where he wants him. ...Only for Venture to put their game on hold as he's scheduled for group therapy, thus everyone's excused to go do other stuff. But does Monarch have anything else to do besides arching Venture? This is another one that's really laid back, and yet incredibly funny! At least a third of the episode is just watching Venture stuck in therapy with other pastiches of boy adventurers. Including, of course, Action Johnny, but also stand-ins for the Hardy Boys, Captain Sunshine's original Wonderboy sidekick, and what appears to be a combination of Astro Boy and Rusty from the obscure Frank Miller comic Big Guy and Rusty. And it's surprisingly engaging just watching these characters talking about their problems and the obvious stress and trauma they suffer in adulthood after all the crap they had to go through as young children. Helped IMMENSELY by the voice cast, which includes Patton Oswalt, Seth Green, and John Hodgman, where even ONE of these people would guarantee a good time! Heck, even the psychiatrist is a lot of fun, trying out some borderline unorthodox methods to get his clients to unwind and accept their lives. There's one method he tries that's SO wrong, so incredibly offensive, that it circles right back to being hilarious! And then he's mysteriously murdered, forcing these former mystery solvers to, well, solve his murder. Leading to a 60s Batman-style barfight, and another appearance by the ever entertaining Doctor Z. Every single line, every single stop these characters make are just so incredibly funny and entertaining. And a bit enlightening, as we see Venture has a distrust of mental professionals because his demeaning father insisted on being his psychiatrist when he was a child. Likely because he wanted complete control over his son's life and/or didn't want the outside world to know how Rusty was actually treated. And after their little adventure, Venture concludes that he doesn't NEED therapy! He's a rich and famous inventor with his own corporation, not one of the traumatized scrubs the other former boy adventurers became, thus leaves without solving the mystery. Which is obviously the wrong message, but understandable it's what he would take away from the experience. Meanwhile, the now safe Venture Bros and Sergeant Hatred attend a movie. Where the joke is-Ok, I'm not going to keep saying it. Especially since, by this point, I'm pretty sure they're only doing it to get a rise out of people like me. And give them credit, they actually do form a plot around Hatred's condition this time, framing it like an uncontrollable addiction that he's tortured by, especially since he's conveniently run out of tranquilizers. Where I LOVE the name they gave his medicine. And, again, it's surprisingly engaging watching him trying to pull himself together and not do something horrible he's going to regret. As well as Hank and Dean genuinely trying to help! Where their solution is so cruel yet effective, I'm not going to reveal what they do. Yep, this is another for the pile of some of the show's best, serving to be simultaneously very funny and very informative. And while I won't reveal who killed the doctor, it's pretty obvious if you think about it.
