Inside the Lycoming Factory: Selecting My New Engine!

Join me, Glen from Glen's Hangar, as I team up with Steve from Flight Chops for a cross-border flight from Toronto to Williamsport, Pennsylvania. We’re visiting the legendary Lycoming Engines facility to solve a major decision for my Cessna 172, Mike Victor Uniform: rebuild or replace?

In this video, we go behind the scenes of a 650,000-square-foot facility to see exactly how aircraft engines are built. From the precision of ion nitriding and Magnaflux testing to the final assembly line, I get a first-hand look at the differences between a field overhaul and a factory-remanufactured engine.

What you’ll see in this video:

Cross-Border IFR Flight: Navigating from Oshawa (CYOO) to Burlington and eventually to Williamsport (KIPT).
Lycoming Factory Tour: A "tease" of the machining process, crankshaft refurbishing, and the final inspection department.
The Decision: Why I’m leaning towards a Lycoming 180 HP O-360 conversion and a Sensenich carbon fiber prop.
Flight Chops Hangar: Staging the plane before the big trip south.
Stay tuned for the full project kickoff in January! If you're a GA pilot or aviation enthusiast interested in aircraft maintenance and engine technology, this deep dive into factory standards is for you.
