Part II: The 48 Hours of Hell

Now here's where I talk about my critical mistake. This whole event took about six hours from the time I left my house to the time I got home. It was only supposed to be like a two hour ride. I...was wearing only a tshirt. I know, I know. I don't wanna hear it :p.
Suffice to say, my arms were red. I was hecka sunburned. Now, I had been quite sunburned before. It wasn't something I was worried about. I have a high tolerance for pain. I've broken many bones and have had the ulnar nerve wrapped around shards of what was once an intact humerus bone causing massive pain. So much pain that I nearly passed out. I was okay with massive pain. This sunburn wasn't a big deal.

The next day, the burn was real but still, it wasn't that big of a deal. I powered through the burn like a boss and even lifted weights. That night, it started. My arms starting becoming itchy.
Part II: 48 Hours of Hell

On the following day I woke up to extremely itchy arms. Just thinking about it is making my skin crawl. This wasn't your ordinary itch. No, this was something called "Hell's Itch" and named aptly. It was HELL. What had happened was I had gotten a second degree burn on my arms. That caused nerve damage to happen due to the burn passing the epidermis well into the dermis and quite possibly, to the subcutaneous layer. Some say that it's a histamine response or even a response to melatonin. The actual cause isn't known. What is known is that this...this Hell's Itch...lives up to it's name. It. Was. Hell.

It got worse. As the day progressed it got worse and worse. I can best describe it as two or three centipedes crawling all over my arms and biting me in staggered intervals. That was sometimes. Other times it felt like a hundred fire ants biting me. These "bites" weren't particularly painful but they were CONSTANT.

NOTHING and I repeat, NOTHING helped. I tried Solarcain (Lidocaine), Calamine lotion, Coritzone, Iburprofen, Aspirin, milk, vinegar, oatmeal, olive oil, aloe, cold water, ice, hot water, cold compress and who knows what else. Everything seemed to exasperate the itching after a few glorious moments of relief.
I could not sleep that night. It was driving me absolutely crazy. Hell's Itch is the absolute WORST thing I've EVER experienced and by FAR. Forget the broken bones. Forget the operations I've had. Forget the massive migraine headaches. Forget that one time where I broke my rib because I was twisted all the way to the side while reaching for something then abruptly sneezed (That hurt a LOT). Hell's Itch...Will drive a person INSANE in a few days. Thankfully, it only lasts about 48 hours.

The next day, I had to go into work four hours late. I had not slept and the itch was continuing it's march into my sanity. Very, very thankfully, it started to subside at around 10am. I went back to sleep, woke up and went to work. The itch, while still there, was a bit more manageable. Throughout the night, it slowly left my arms. I still feel a feel tingle here and there but as soon as I finish this, I am going to sleep. Sleep, oh glorious sleep!
The end.
