Were the 90s the golden years of console and PC gaming? I test that thought by going back to the heyday of 3D and PC gaming. The PowerVR2 powering the Sega Dreamcast was but one player within the PC space vying for console relevancy. The Neon 250 is the direct compatriot of the Dreamcast in the PC 3D accelerator market. How good was it? How did it work? What made it so forward looking? Did it compete with the PC's best? And just how do the console and PC brethren stack up to each other?
This is Part 1 a huge Retrospective and one that covers a great deal of the birth and gestation of modern 3D gaming in the console and PC space.
