Aussie Garage | Secrets of Dodge Challenger in Richard's Collection @AussieGarage | Uploaded February 2024 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
On todays episode of Aussie Garage we meet up with Richard who has a small collection of American and Aussie Mopar's. First up is the 1972 Dodge Challenger. Richard got the Challenger back in the 80s which was 1 of 4 vehicles that were imported into Queensland and had to tidy it up with a respray and some minor trim work, but the good thing was it already had a 440 big block engine, 950 Holley with a 3 speed 727 transmission with a 3:23 diff ratio. in Richards words "it's fast." but not fast enough. These American Muscle Car Classic Cars are highly sort after and loved by Mopar Fans across the world.

The paint of the Dodge Challenger is a GM Colour called Silver Ice Mink that he saw on a Commodore one day and went I love that colour. The Dodge Challenger was the usual issue at high speeds just like the Valiant Charger, the front starts lifting up and thinks it can fly. But this one stunning vehicle.

I love the styling of the bonnet, shape of the car lines and the interior is made for the drivers comfort and not so much for the rear passengers. Richard used to race this at the Drag track but realised it not worth ruining this Dodge Challenger, so he search for a new ride made for the track only.

He had acquired a Valliant Regal Hardtop along the way and he got to work converting it over to a drag car. He wanted a car like the 1968 -69 A Body Vehicles that were made from the factory specifically for drag racing circuit.

The Valiant Regal Hardtop is running a 383 V8 Engine that has been stroked up to a 440 V8 engine now with 960 Holley, 2 inch Hooker Super Comp Headers made specifically for A Body Vehicles, air gap manifold and MSD electronic ignition. It back by a 727 Transmission with a Ford 9 inch Diff with 3:72 diff gearing. He is running a flat 11 seconds on the track and got it down to under 11 seconds once. He is hoping with the new diff ratio that he will be low 10's if possible.

He love the attention he get in this vehicle from kids asking questions and waving as it goes by.

Now let's move onto the Lil Red Express Truck - Dodge Adventurer 150 that had less than 10,000 of these made in production for sale. Richard always wanted a Dodge Truck like this, so he went on a mission to find one and saw one in Forte Worth Texas. He brought this one and got it shipped over to Australia seamlessly. He has not change anything on the Lil Red Express Truck beside the Mag Wheels, the rest is original to the Truck.

Its running a 360 V8 Engine with a overdrive 4 speed transmission with standard stack tower exhaust system from factory. The American Styling and Marketing of these trucks were spot on appealing to buyers in the States and it would be awesome if we had factory vehicle in Australia that looked like this. The Lil Red Express Truck Stickers on the Doors were also straight from the factory as well.

Richard brought this truck as a tow rig for the Drag Racer, but he shows it off at events throughout Western Australia as well. He is also part of the American Car Club of WA and Charger Car Club of WA as well.

Super thanks to Richard for showing us his American Muscle Cars and his Valiant Regal Hardtop Drag Racer. Awesome vehicles and good luck cracking low 10's on the track mate.
